1 Connecting a USB storage device to the FRITZ!Box
- Connect the USB storage device to a USB port on the FRITZ!Box.
Note:The FRITZ!Box supplies USB devices with a total of up to 500 mA in accordance with the USB 2.0 specification. If more power is needed, connect your USB devices to the FRITZ!Box via a USB hub with its own power supply (active USB hub).
2 Installing the FRITZ!Box USB remote connection software
Install the FRITZ!Box USB remote connection software on the computer that you want to use the USB device connected to the FRITZ!Box with:

- Log on to the computer as the Windows user who wants to use the FRITZ!Box USB remote connection.
Important:If the user does not have administrator rights, you must enter a valid administrator password when installing or starting the software for the first time.
- Open the FRITZ!Box user interface.
- Click 'USB Devices' in the 'Home Network' menu.
- Click on the 'USB Remote Connection' tab. If the tab is not displayed, enable the Advanced View first.
- Enable the option 'USB remote connection enabled'.
- Click the 'USB remote connection software' link.
- The window 'USB Remote Connection' opens.
- If the window 'USB Remote Connection' has a 'Download' button:
- Click 'Download' in the window 'USB Remote Connection' and download the file 'fritzbox-usb-fernanschluss.application'.
- Double-click the downloaded file.
- Click 'Install' and follow the instructions on your screen.
- Repeat steps 1 - 8 for all other Windows users who want to use the FRITZ!Box USB remote connection.

3 Enabling the USB remote connection for storage
- Click 'Home Network' in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
- Click 'USB Devices' in the 'Home Network' menu.
- Click on the 'USB Remote Connection' tab. If the tab is not displayed, enable the Advanced View first.
- Enable the USB remote connection and the option 'USB storage media'.
Important:If the USB remote connection is used for the device type 'USB storage media', the USB storage device cannot be integrated in the NAS (Network Attached Storage) of the FRITZ!Box.
- Click 'Apply' to save the settings.

4 Connecting a USB storage device to a computer via the USB remote connection
- Double-click the FRITZ!Box USB remote connection symbol in the notification area of the Windows taskbar (Systray).
- If password protection is enabled for the FRITZ!Box user interface, enter the password and leave the 'User name' field blank.
- If you have protected the FRITZ!Box with a user name and password, enter the name and password of a user who is authorized to access the FRITZ!Box user interface.
Note:You can edit the access rights of users under 'System > FRITZ!Box Users' in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
- If you have protected the FRITZ!Box with a user name and password, enter the name and password of a user who is authorized to access the FRITZ!Box user interface.
- Click 'Refresh'.
- Right-click the USB storage device that you want to connect to the computer.
- Click 'Connect'.
Now the computer recognizes the USB storage device as a USB device and it can be used as if it were connected directly to a USB port on the computer.
Note:Before a different computer can access the USB storage device, you must clear the connection between the computer and the USB storage device in the USB remote connection software.
